Batumi Day Tour from Trabzon – Cross the Border into Georgia

This full-day shared excursion takes you from Trabzon across the Turkish–Georgian frontier at the Sarp border gate to the Black Sea resort city of Batumi. Departing at 08:00, this daily tour combines guided sightseeing, free time by the sea, and an evening light show before returning to Trabzon around 23:00. It is an easy-paced Trabzon day trip suitable for travelers aged 12 and over, led by a professional English-speaking guide.

  • Sarp Border Crossing: Experience an international land border crossing between Turkey and Georgia, with customs formalities handled along the way.
  • Apostle Statues: See the monuments of St. Andrew and St. Matthias on the road into Georgia.
  • Gonio (Asparos) Castle: Enjoy a panoramic view of this Roman-era fortress before reaching the city.
  • Batumi City Center: Visit the Orthodox Cathedral of the Virgin Mary, Europe Square with the Golden Fleece Medea Statue, Piazza Square, and Theater Square.
  • Seaside Icons: Stroll Batumi Boulevard and see the Alphabet Tower and the moving Ali and Nino Statue.
  • Orta Mosque: Discover a surviving Ottoman-period mosque in the heart of the city.
  • Evening Show: Watch the water, sound, light and laser performance after dark.

Batumi is Georgia's vibrant Black Sea capital, famous for blending 19th-century European architecture with bold modern landmarks. Europe Square showcases the city's classical face, crowned by the statue of Medea holding the Golden Fleece — a nod to the ancient Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts, which is set in this very region of ancient Colchis. Piazza Square, by contrast, offers an Italian-style atmosphere with mosaics, cafés and live music corners, while the Alphabet Tower celebrates the unique 33-letter Georgian script in a striking double-helix design.

The seafront boulevard stretches for kilometers along the shore and is home to the beloved Ali and Nino Statue, a moving sculpture inspired by a famous novel about a love divided by culture and history. On the return drive along the coastal road, you will also spot Batumi's quirky modern skyline, including the upside-down Reverse Building, the Colosseum, the Aquapark and the airport tower.

Practical notes: bring your passport and check Georgian visa requirements for your nationality in advance, as the visa is not included. There is a stop at an exchange office so you can obtain Georgian Lari, and any remaining Lari can be converted back before re-entering Turkey. Meals and drinks are at your own expense, with a lunch break at a restaurant serving Georgian cuisine. On the way back there is also a chance to browse duty-free shopping. This daily excursion involves easy walking and long but comfortable road travel in a modern air-conditioned vehicle.
