This private eight-day tour circles through the heart of Turkey by road, from Istanbul across Anatolia to Cappadocia, down to the Aegean and back via Troy. Full board is included every day, together with a licensed English-speaking guide, all entrance fees and air-conditioned transport, making it an easy way to see a great deal in one week.
On arrival you tour Istanbul's old city – the Hippodrome, the six-minaret Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace – before driving to the forests of Bolu. The next day you visit Anıtkabir, Atatürk's mausoleum in Ankara, and stop at the vast Tuz Gölü salt lake on the way to Cappadocia. A full day there covers Pigeon Valley, Devrent Valley, Uçhisar Castle, Avanos with its pottery workshops, Paşabağ (Monks' Valley) and an underground city.
Crossing the Anatolian plateau you reach Konya for the Mevlana Museum, dedicated to Rumi, and a 13th-century Seljuk caravanserai, then continue to Pamukkale. Its white travertines and the ruins of Hierapolis are followed by Ephesus, with the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre and the Temple of Hadrian, before an overnight stay in Kuşadası.
The final leg visits the Asclepion of Pergamon, the healing centre of the ancient world, and Troy with its famous wooden horse, then returns to Istanbul via Çanakkale for an afternoon at the Grand Bazaar. Shopping stops at carpet, pottery, leather, textile and local-produce outlets are part of the programme.

Your guide meets you at Istanbul Airport for a tour of the old city: the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque with its Iznik tiles and six minarets, and Topkapı Palace (closed on Tuesdays), home of the Ottoman sultans for nearly 400 years. After lunch, drive to Bolu, set among forests and lakes. Dinner and overnight in Bolu.
Drive to Ankara to visit Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Atatürk. After lunch, continue towards Cappadocia with a stop at Tuz Gölü (Salt Lake), a huge salt pan whose colours shift with the seasons and which sometimes attracts flamingos. Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia.
Visit Pigeon Valley, stop for photos at Devrent (Imagination) Valley and climb to the viewpoint of Uçhisar Castle, the highest point in the region. After lunch in Avanos, visit a pottery workshop and a carpet showroom, then see the mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys of Paşabağ (Monks' Valley) and explore an underground city. Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia.
Travel west to Konya, capital of the Seljuk sultans, to visit the Mevlana Museum, resting place of Rumi, and stop at a 13th-century Seljuk caravanserai on the old Silk Road. After lunch, continue to Pamukkale and visit a textile outlet. Dinner and overnight in Pamukkale.
Walk on the dazzling white terraces of Pamukkale and explore Hierapolis with its Roman theatre, necropolis and Temple of Apollo. After lunch, drive to Selçuk for Ephesus: the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, the Temple of Hadrian and the public latrines. A stop for Turkish delight and olive oil tasting follows on the way to Kuşadası. Dinner and overnight in Kuşadası.
Begin with a leather outlet and fashion show, then drive north to Pergamon to visit the Asclepion, a famous healing sanctuary of antiquity. After lunch in Bergama, continue to Troy and its wooden horse, then on to Çanakkale. Dinner and overnight in Çanakkale.
Return to Istanbul for lunch, then devote the afternoon to the Grand Bazaar (closed on Sundays), with its thousands of shops selling carpets, jewellery, spices and souvenirs. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.
