This eight-day tour pairs four nights in Istanbul with three nights on the Aegean in Bodrum. It suits travellers who want the essential sights of Istanbul with a guide and then a relaxed seaside finish, with two guided outings in Bodrum and dinner at the hotel every evening there.
Istanbul begins with the old city: the Hippodrome and its three ancient monuments, the Blue Mosque with its blue Iznik tiles and Hagia Sophia, the greatest surviving work of Byzantine architecture, followed by a shopping stop for spices, Turkish delight and souvenirs. The next day a boat takes you along the Bosphorus past Dolmabahçe, Yıldız and Çırağan palaces, Ortaköy, the Rumeli Fortress and Beylerbeyi Palace; you cross the Bosphorus Bridge from Asia to Europe, enjoy the view from Çamlıca Hill and visit carpet-weaving, jewellery and leather workshops. A day trip to the Princes' Islands can be added.
In Bodrum you visit a mountain village behind the resort to see rural life, the teahouse and village homes and kilims woven by local women. The city tour covers the Castle of St. Peter, built by the Knights Hospitaller in the early 15th century and home to Turkey's largest museum of underwater archaeology, the site of the Mausoleum, counted among the ancient world's Seven Wonders, and the ancient theatre on the hillside, among the oldest in Asia Minor.

Start at the Hippodrome with the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpent Column and the Column of Constantine, then visit the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, once the largest church in the world and famous for its 6th-century mosaics. After a lunch break around 13:00, stop at a traditional store for spices, baklava, Turkish delight and souvenirs. Bring a headscarf for the mosques. Overnight in Istanbul.
Pick-up at 08:30 for a boat trip along the strait between Europe and Asia, past Dolmabahçe Palace, Yıldız Park, Çırağan Palace, Ortaköy, the Rumeli Fortress built in 1452 and Beylerbeyi Palace. Cross the Bosphorus Bridge and enjoy the panorama from Çamlıca Hill, Istanbul's highest point, then visit a carpet-weaving course, a jewellery and handicraft centre and a leather fashion show. The evening is free. Overnight in Istanbul.
Spend the day at leisure or join an optional cruise across the Sea of Marmara to Büyükada, largest of the Princes' Islands, seeing Topkapı Palace and the Maiden's Tower from the water, with a horse-drawn carriage ride and lunch at a fish restaurant. Overnight in Istanbul.
Transfer to Istanbul Airport for the domestic flight to Bodrum and continue to your hotel. Dinner and overnight in Bodrum.
Drive about 20 minutes into the hills to a traditional mountain village. Visit the teahouse, the mosque and village homes, taste local food and spirits, and see hand-woven kilims and carpets. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Bodrum.
Depart at 09:30 for the Castle of St. Peter, built between 1402 and 1409, with finds from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine period and a reconstructed ancient shipwreck in its underwater archaeology museum. Continue to the site of the Mausoleum of King Mausolus and the ancient theatre above the town. Dinner and overnight in Bodrum.
