Turkey's Classic Circuit in Eight Days

This private tour travels clockwise around western and central Turkey, combining eight UNESCO-listed highlights with full board, a professional English-speaking guide, entrance fees, the Dardanelles ferry and air-conditioned transport. It starts with Istanbul's old city and ends with an afternoon in the Grand Bazaar.

After the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace, you drive to the Gallipoli peninsula with its First World War battlefields and cross the Dardanelles to Çanakkale. The next day brings Troy, with its replica wooden horse, and the Asclepion of Pergamon, an ancient healing sanctuary. From Kuşadası you visit Ephesus – the Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, the Temple of Hadrian and the Odeon – and the site of the Temple of Artemis, before heading to the white travertines of Pamukkale and the ruins of Hierapolis.

Crossing Anatolia you stop in Konya at the Mevlana Museum, the mausoleum of Rumi, and at a Seljuk caravanserai on the Silk Road. Cappadocia gets a full day: the underground city of Çardak, Uçhisar Castle, Pigeon Valley, Paşabağ, Avanos and Devrent Valley with its camel-shaped rock.

On the way back you see Tuz Gölü, a vast salt lake that turns pink in early summer and attracts flamingos, and Anıtkabir, Atatürk's mausoleum in Ankara, before a night in the forests of Bolu and the return to Istanbul. Shopping stops at leather, textile, Turkish delight and olive oil outlets are included in the programme.
