My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
8 Days South Anatolia Tour: Cappadocia, Mount Nemrut, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa & Mardin Private Tour
Highlights of the 8 Days South Anatolia Tour
This eight-day private journey travels from the volcanic landscapes of Cappadocia across the Anatolian plateau to the edge of the Mesopotamian plain, linking some of the oldest and most photogenic sites in Turkey. After an arrival day, a full day in Cappadocia takes you into the Ozkonak Underground City, up to Uchisar Castle at the highest point of the region and through the Goreme Open Air Museum, whose rock-cut churches preserve frescoes from around the 10th century showing the life of Christ and the monks who lived here. The day continues to the abandoned cave village of Cavusin, lunch and a pottery workshop in Avanos, Love Valley, a carpet and kilim workshop, the animal-shaped rocks of Devrent (Imagination) Valley, wine tasting in Urgup and the Three Beauties, the capped fairy chimneys that have become the symbol of Cappadocia.
The road then follows the old Silk Road east past the 13th-century Karatay Han to Mount Nemrut, the mountaintop tomb sanctuary of King Antiochus I of Commagene, forgotten for almost 2,000 years until a railway surveyor came across it in the late 19th century. In Gaziantep you visit the Zeugma Mosaic Museum, the hilltop Gaziantep Castle and the coppersmiths bazaar before a kebab lunch in a local restaurant. A drive through the pistachio groves brings you to Halfeti, a town partly submerged by a dam lake, which you see from the water on a boat trip, followed by Gobeklitepe, the prehistoric hilltop sanctuary often described as the place where history begins.
In Sanliurfa you stroll around the sacred Fish Lake (Balikligol), the handicraft shops and spice-scented lanes, then visit the Sanliurfa Archaeology Museum and the Haleplibahce Mosaic complex. Harran, with its conical mud-brick houses, is the last stop before Mardin, where you see the Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) and the Virgin Mary Church, wander the stone-paved streets and spend two nights in a traditional stone hotel. A further day covers the ancient city of Dara, the madrasas of Mardin and Deyrulzafaran Monastery, once the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch. The tour includes seven nights of hotel accommodation (two in a cave hotel in Cappadocia, one each in Kahta, Gaziantep and Sanliurfa and two in Mardin), seven breakfasts, six lunches and seven dinners, professional English-speaking guides on every touring day and all entrance fees mentioned in the programme.

Day 2 Ozkonak, Uchisar, Goreme Open Air Museum, Avanos & Urgup - Cappadocia to Mount Nemrut via Karatay Han 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾
After breakfast you are collected from your hotel between 08:00 and 09:30 (exact time confirmed the day before) and drive to Ozkonak, an underground city in remarkably good condition. Next come Uchisar Castle, the highest point of the region, and the Goreme Open Air Museum with its 10th-century frescoes of the life of Christ and the monks. You then see the old Greek cave houses of abandoned Cavusin before lunch at a restaurant in Avanos and a visit to a pottery workshop. You are back at your hotel at around 18:00 for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Cappadocia to Mount Nemrut via Karatay Han - Zeugma Mosaic Museum & Gaziantep 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾
After breakfast you leave Cappadocia via Kayseri and follow the historic Silk Road east, stopping at Karatay Han, a caravanserai built in the 13th century to shelter travelling merchants. Later you turn off the old caravan route towards Adiyaman and climb to the mountaintop tomb of King Antiochus I of Commagene on Mount Nemrut, one of the most iconic sites in Turkey. Hidden from the world for nearly two thousand years, it came to light again in the 1880s thanks to a railway surveyor. Dinner and overnight near Mount Nemrut.
Day 4 Zeugma Mosaic Museum & Gaziantep - Halfeti, Gobeklitepe & Sanliurfa 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾
After breakfast you head south-west towards Gaziantep, driving through mountain scenery and Anatolian towns. In Gaziantep you visit the Zeugma Mosaic Museum with its celebrated Roman floor mosaics, climb to Gaziantep Castle and walk through the coppersmiths bazaar, where craftsmen still hammer copper by hand. Lunch is at a local restaurant famous for its kebabs, the speciality of the city. Dinner and overnight in Gaziantep.
Day 5 Halfeti, Gobeklitepe & Sanliurfa - Sanliurfa Museums, Harran & Mardin 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾
After breakfast you drive about 96 kilometres through the pistachio orchards the region is famous for to Halfeti, a town partly flooded by a dam on the Euphrates; a boat trip shows you the sunken houses and the surrounding landscape. Another 112 kilometres brings you to Gobeklitepe, the recently uncovered sanctuary regarded as the starting point of history. Your hotel in Sanliurfa is in the city centre, so in the evening you walk to the Fish Lake (Balikligol) and through the narrow streets with handicraft shops, spice stalls and small kebab houses. An optional traditional Sira Gecesi evening with live local music can be arranged at extra cost. Overnight in Sanliurfa.
Day 6 Sanliurfa Museums, Harran & Mardin - Mardin, Dara & Deyrulzafaran Monastery 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾
After breakfast you visit the Sanliurfa Archaeology Museum and the Haleplibahce Mosaic complex with their remarkable finds. About 48 kilometres away lies Harran, famous for its conical mud-brick houses and the traces of a much older city. Continuing for around 196 kilometres, you reach Mardin in the late afternoon and visit the Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) and the Virgin Mary Church before walking the stone-paved streets of the old town. Check in to your hotel built of traditional stone for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Mardin, Dara & Deyrulzafaran Monastery - Departure from Mardin 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner ▾
Today is dedicated to Mardin, perched on a hillside above the start of the Mesopotamian plain. You visit the ancient city of Dara, the historic madrasas of the old town and Deyrulzafaran Monastery, for centuries the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch. Along the way you experience the street life of the city and taste the kebabs of south-eastern Turkey. Dinner and a second night in Mardin.
Day 8 Departure - Mardin 🍽 Breakfast ▾
After breakfast you check out of your hotel and are transferred to the airport for your onward flight, bringing your journey through South Anatolia to an end.

What Our Travellers Say
Real, verified reviews from travellers who explored Turkey with us.
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
