About Gaziantep Museum of Archaelogy

The Gaziantep Museum of Archaeology houses an extensive collection of artifacts spanning from the Paleolithic Age to recent periods. The museum features Hittite steles, replicas of archaeological findings from Carchemish (Karkamış) and materials from various ancient sites in the region. Displays are presented in well-lit, modernised halls with both Turkish and English descriptions, and include dioramas depicting ancient life and olive-oil production.

The museum sits near Gaziantep Castle in the city center, making it easy to visit both attractions within a few hours. Notable exhibits include jewelry, coins, seals and statuary heads, such as a depiction of Antiochus I Theos of Commagene. The collection gives visitors a comprehensive overview of the area's historical phases, from Sumerian through Greek and Roman periods.
