Balıkesir National Forces Museum
About Balıkesir National Forces Museum
The Balikesir National Forces Museum (Kuvayi Milliye Museum) is housed in a preserved historic building in downtown Balikesir, Turkey, near a replica clock tower. It showcases the significance of Balikesir throughout Turkish history through a diverse collection spanning several periods and themes.
The museum is organized into three main sections: displays related to Turkey's War of Independence, with uniforms, photographs and texts documenting Ataturk's visits to the city; ethnographic collections presenting daily items and traditional clothing from the region; and archaeological artifacts from ancient cities within Balikesir province, including pieces from Antandros and Kyzikos dating back some 2,600 years. The museum garden contains an arrangement of ancient marble statues, gravestones, altars and inscriptions from archaeological sites in the area.
Parking may be difficult in the central location. The museum offers free admission.
