This daily Chimera Yanartas tour from Kemer takes you to the famous burning mountainside, the ruined Lycian city of Olympos and the protected shore of Adrasan Bay in a single relaxed day trip. Hotel pickup is arranged along the Kemer coast, including Beldibi, Goynuk, Camyuva, Kiris and Tekirova, so you can sit back in an air-conditioned coach while the guide handles everything.
Olympos began as a Lycian settlement named, it is believed, after nearby Mount Olympos, and it flourished in Hellenistic times. The ruins spread along both banks of the Ulupinar stream and include a Byzantine bath house with mosaic floors, a marble temple doorway, a theatre and rock-cut tombs. The sandy bay of Adrasan beside it is a protected nesting ground for sea turtles, which gives the stop a peaceful, natural feel as well as a historical one.
A short drive brings the group to Chimera (Yanartas), where natural gas escaping from the rock keeps small flames burning on the slope above the old town. Locals link the fires to the myth of the fire-breathing Chimera, slain by the hero Bellerophon riding the winged horse Pegasus, and the site was once a place of worship for Hephaestus. The day ends with a meal at a restaurant on the Ulupinar river, where tables stand over flowing water, followed by a comfortable transfer back to your Kemer hotel. Wear sturdy walking shoes for this Kemer excursion.

Chimera Yanartas Programme You are collected from your hotel in Kemer or from one of the neighbouring resorts such as Beldibi, Goynuk, Camyuva, Kiris or Tekirova, and driven south along the Lycian coast in an air-conditioned coach. The first stop is the ancient city of Olympos, a Hellenistic-era Lycian settlement thought to be named after nearby Mount Olympos. Your guide leads you through ruins scattered on both sides of the Ulupinar stream, among them a Byzantine bath house with mosaic floors, a marble temple entrance, a theatre and excavated tombs. The adjoining sandy shoreline at Adrasan Bay is a protected nesting site for sea turtles. After a short ride the group reaches Chimera, once a sanctuary for Hephaestus, the god of fire, where flames fed by natural gas have burned on the rocky slope for centuries. The guide retells the legend of the fire-breathing monster slain by Bellerophon and Pegasus. Afterwards you stop for a meal at a restaurant on the Ulupinar river, eating at tables set above the running water. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. In the evening the coach returns you to your hotel or to the airport.

My husband and I chose Inca Tour for our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. The boutique hotel selection was beautiful and the Bosphorus dinner cruise was so romantic. Thank you for making our trip special!
It was important for us to have a guide who spoke Russian, and Ender was wonderful. He explained every detail at Dolmabahce Palace. The Princes Islands day trip was a beautiful break from the busy city.
Our guide Ender was incredibly knowledgeable about Turkish history. The hot-air balloon ride at sunrise in Cappadocia was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfectly organized — from airport pick-up to the last d...
Ender was our Italian-speaking guide and we felt like family. He took us to local spots tourists never see. The hotel choice in Sultanahmet was perfect for walking everywhere.
10+ years later we still talk about our Cappadocia balloon ride and the Bosphorus sunset cruise. Some memories are timeless. Thank you Inca Tour!
