The longest of our Trabzon stays turns a city break into a well-rounded week on the eastern Black Sea. From a single hotel base you spend one day on the region's great monuments and mountain sights, one day learning to cook local food, one day relaxing in a hamam and one day in the green highlands around Uzungol Lake, with an airport transfer at each end. Every guided outing begins with a pick-up at your hotel, and the pace leaves plenty of free time in between.
Day two is the sightseeing marathon: the 13th-century St. Sophia Church-Mosque and its Byzantine murals, the Gulbahar Hatun Mosque, Trabzon Castle, the elegant Ataturk Mansion on its wooded hill and the Ortahisar Mosque, built as a cathedral under the Comnenian emperors, followed by a stroll on cobbled lanes. Tea from a samovar at Boztepe comes with a broad view over city and sea, and Lake Sera is the next stop. The afternoon brings the Sumela Monastery, a 4th-century sanctuary fixed to a sheer rock face above the forest, a pause by the stream in Altindere Valley National Park and the Silk Road crossing of the Zigana Mountains to the richly coloured Karaca Cave.
The following two days slow the rhythm. A restaurant chef shows you how to prepare Trabzon specialities, salads and desserts, which you then enjoy for lunch, and a visit to a Turkish bath introduces the cold, warm and hot rooms and the scrub given by tellak and natir attendants. On day five a scenic drive of about an hour and a half leads to Uzungol, a lake created when landslides dammed a river valley, with wooden chalet-style houses of Sherah village on the way and a couple of hours of free time to explore. The package covers five hotel nights, five breakfasts and one lunch, guided tours with an English-speaking guide, air-conditioned transport, airport transfers and listed entrance fees.

When you arrive at Trabzon Airport, our representative is waiting to drive you to your hotel in the city, which will be your home for the next five nights. After check-in the day is entirely yours: rest after the journey, unpack properly, or step out to get a first feel for the neighbourhood. Your guided programme starts the next morning. After breakfast your guide picks you up for the main sightseeing day. Visit the 13th-century St. Sophia Church-Mosque with its Byzantine frescoes, then the Gulbahar Hatun Mosque, the castle and the hillside Ataturk Mansion. See the Ortahisar Mosque, once a Comnenian cathedral, and wander the old cobbled streets. At Boztepe enjoy samovar tea and a panoramic view of Trabzon before stopping at Lake Sera. Later continue inland to the cliff-side Sumela Monastery, relax by the stream at Altindere Valley National Park and drive the Silk Road over the Zigana Mountains to Karaca Cave, admired for its colours and formations. After breakfast you visit a local restaurant for a hands-on lesson with its chef, while your guide explains every detail. The menu focuses on regional Trabzon dishes rooted in Turkish cuisine, completed with salads and desserts. You then sit down to eat the lunch you have prepared before being driven back to your hotel for a free afternoon. Overnight in Trabzon.
Following breakfast you are collected for a visit to a hamam, a bathing tradition that reaches back to the Roman era. Like a Roman bath, it is divided into cold, warm and hot sections, and trained attendants, the tellak for men and the natir for women, perform the traditional scrub. Enjoy the warmth and relaxation, then return to the hotel. Overnight in Trabzon.
After breakfast, set off at around 9 am for the drive of roughly 1.5 hours to Uzungol, passing wooden red-roofed houses of Sherah village that blend into the green slopes. The lake formed when landslides blocked a river bed and is now one of the best-known beauty spots of the Black Sea region, with high plateaus and small crater lakes in the mountains above. You have a couple of hours of free time to walk around the lakeshore before lunch, which is not included. Afterwards return to Trabzon. Overnight in Trabzon.
Have a final breakfast and check out of your hotel. A transfer takes you to Trabzon Airport for your flight home or onward, rounding off six days of history, local flavours, relaxation and mountain lake scenery on Turkey's Black Sea coast. Thank you for travelling with us, and safe travels.
