This three-day weekend is an easy way to enjoy the Bodrum Peninsula without planning. You stay two nights at Le Méridien Bodrum Beach Resort on an all-inclusive basis, so meals are taken care of, and the days are spent between the resort's beach and pools and one short guided outing into the countryside.
On arrival you are met at Bodrum Airport or the bus station and taken straight to the resort; the rest of the day is free to settle in or head into town for the marina, the castle of St Peter and the lively waterfront.
The second day brings a guided village tour about 20 minutes from Bodrum's boutiques and bars. In a mountain village where daily life has hardly changed in generations, you visit the teahouse, the mosque and village homes, taste home-style cooking and local spirits, and finish with a display of kilims and carpets woven by the village women.
With your free time you can visit Bodrum Castle, built by the Knights of St John in the 15th century and home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, walk to the remains of ancient Halicarnassus and the site of the Mausoleum, or simply stay on the beach. The peninsula's bays are known for clear, calm water that is ideal for swimming well into autumn.
On the last morning you check out after breakfast and transfer back to the airport or bus station. Optional extras such as a Dalyan day trip or a boat tour along the coast can be added on request: Dalyan is famous for the rock-cut tombs of ancient Kaunos and İztuzu Beach, a nesting ground of loggerhead turtles, while the boat trip visits several bays and the warm mineral grotto of Black Island.
