Bingöl lies among high mountains and plateaus in eastern Anatolia, its name often translated as "a thousand lakes" after the many small lakes of its highlands. This short private tour stays three nights in the city and offers one guided day in the west of the province and a cooking class, with transfers from and to Bingöl Airport.
The guided day is full of surprises for first-time visitors: the little-known Buban fairy chimneys of Oğuldere, set in a green valley rather than the dry landscapes of Cappadocia, rock-cut caves at Çiçektepe and Kalkanlı with traces of early settlement and engraved decoration, and Kiğı Castle on its crag above the Peri River.
On the cooking day you learn to make gömme, a hearty bread baked in the embers that is part of everyday life in the region, together with a local dessert. Your arrival and departure days leave time to explore the city's markets and tea houses, and to taste the famous Bingöl honey from the surrounding plateaus.
Beyond the itinerary, the province is known for natural sights such as the floating islands of Hamurpet Lake near Solhan and the Çır Waterfall; our team can arrange extra excursions if you wish to extend your stay. Drive to the village of Oğuldere to see the Buban fairy chimneys, short rock pinnacles crowning the hills along a green valley that leads up to the old village, with cave dwellings, natural caves and grazing pastures. Visit the Çiçektepe village cave, two rooms and a gallery whose walls carry traces of ancient settlement, then continue to Kiğı Castle, built on steep rocks above the Peri River (Fairy Water), with its medieval-style walls. Finish at the Kalkanlı village cave, carved into the natural rock and decorated with engravings. Return to your hotel. Overnight in Bingöl.
Join a local chef to prepare gömme, Bingöl's traditional bread baked under embers, along with a regional dessert, and enjoy them for lunch. Afterwards, time to browse the shops downtown before returning to the hotel. Overnight in Bingöl.
