Ulucanlar Cezaevi Müzesi
About Ulucanlar Cezaevi Müzesi
The Ulucanlar Prison Museum is a historical institution housed in a former prison located in Ankara's Hacettepe district. This museum documents Turkey's complex political and criminal justice history by preserving the actual prison facility where numerous politicians and prisoners were incarcerated throughout the country's modern era. The museum displays cells, personal belongings of notable inmates, and historical artifacts that illustrate prison conditions and the experiences of those confined there.
The museum provides visitors with an immersive historical experience through preserved prison infrastructure, including cells, visiting areas, and bathhouses. Certain sections feature audio recordings and reenactments that convey the atmosphere and hardships of incarceration. Adjacent to the prison structure, the grounds include garden spaces where local artists display artwork, and a café operates on-site.
Operating hours extend from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily except Mondays.
