About IĞDIR MÜZESİ MÜDÜRLÜĞÜ

The most prominent museum in Iğdır is the Iğdır Memorial Museum, which has become the symbol of the city.

The Five Swords monument consists of five giant swords leaning against each other. The hilts of these swords feature soldier figures representing different periods of Turkish history (Hun, Göktürk, Seljuk, Ottoman, and Republican), and the monument stands 43.5 meters tall from its base.

Kurgan and Seljuk Influence: The museum section is located within an artificial mound (kurgan) beneath the monument. The entrance gate is designed in accordance with traditional Seljuk architecture.

The 350-square-meter indoor museum area on the lower floor displays the following:

Archive Documents: Historical documents and reference books regarding the events that took place in the region between 1915 and 1920.

Visual Materials: Photographs depicting historical events and findings obtained from archaeological excavations in the region.

Portraits and Photographs: Historical photos documenting the Pasha’s activities on the Eastern Front, his dialogues with the local people, and moments with his military units.

Personal Item Representations: Displays of objects such as uniforms, swords, or writing sets that reference Kâzım Karabekir’s life and military identity (some items may be period-appropriate replicas or pieces from collections).

Military Documents and Maps: Copies of maps and documents showing front lines and plans of military operations carried out in and around Iğdır in the 1920s.

Information on the Treaty of Alexandropol (Gümrü): Information panels regarding the Treaty of Gümrü, the first international treaty signed by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which determined the fate of Iğdır.
