Ethnography Museum Arslan Torun Mansion

The Ethnography Museum Arslan Torun Mansion is housed in a beautifully restored Ottoman-era mansion in central Sinop, Turkey. It is an excellent example of the traditional Turkish konak of 19th-century Sinop, and its interior features gorgeously painted walls and ceilings, with rooms arranged as elaborate dioramas of period furnishings, clothing and artifacts.

Each room depicts a different aspect of 19th-century life, including a bride's room, a gentlemen's quarters with historical weapons, and spaces displaying traditional textiles and weaving equipment. Wax figures in period dress demonstrate daily activities, offering insight into how the Ottoman upper class once lived. On the ground floor, artisans keep traditional weaving techniques alive on functional looms.

The mansion sits within a garden in the town center, roughly ten minutes' walk from the coast and close to other landmarks such as mosques and the archaeology museum. Entrance is free, and visitors are asked to remove their shoes or wear plastic galoshes while touring the interior.
