About Anadolu Medeniyetleri Muzesi

The Anadolu Medeniyetleri Muzesi (Museum of Anatolian Civilizations) is located in Ankara's historic Ulus district near the castle. Housed in two Ottoman-era buildings, a former covered bazaar and a caravanserai, the museum contains an extensive collection of over 200,000 artifacts spanning multiple civilizations and time periods.

The museum's exhibits trace human history through various Anatolian epochs, including Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Hittite, Assyrian, Phrygian, Urartian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. Highlights include Early Bronze Age statues and Neolithic wall paintings, along with cuneiform inscriptions and other significant archaeological finds. All exhibits feature English-language descriptions, making the collection accessible to international visitors.

The museum won the European Museum of the Year Award in 1997 and is recognized as one of the world's leading archaeological institutions. It operates daily, and it is advisable to allow at least two hours for a visit.
