Alacahoyuk Muzesi

Alacahoyuk Muzesi is a museum and archaeological site located in the Alaca district of Corum Province, Turkey. The site represents one of the most significant Hittite locations, with excavations beginning in 1935 that revealed evidence of four distinct civilizations. The museum itself is a modern two-story building housing artifacts and sculptures dating back thousands of years, showcasing the craftsmanship and sophistication of ancient Anatolian and Hittite civilization.

The outdoor archaeological site features well-preserved remains including the iconic Sphinx Gate, royal tombs, fortified walls, towers and various room structures. Visitors can explore these remnants while gaining insight into Hittite burial traditions and cultural practices. The site lies roughly 50 kilometers from Hattusa, the former capital of the Hittite kingdom, making it an important complementary destination for those studying ancient Anatolia. While many of the most significant artifacts have been transferred to larger institutions such as the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara, the on-site collection and archaeological remains provide valuable historical context.
