This one-week package combines a relaxed seaside stay in Kusadasi with the two classic excursions of Turkey's Aegean region. You spend all six nights in the same hotel on the coast, with breakfast and dinner included every day, so the holiday has a steady rhythm: two guided touring days to the great sites inland, and several unhurried days for the beach, the clear sea and the lively streets of the resort. Kusadasi is a busy harbour town with a long promenade, a bazaar full of small shops and a wide choice of cafΓ©s and restaurants, which makes it an easy base for couples, friends and families who want both culture and leisure without changing hotels.
The first excursion is a full guided day at Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities of the Mediterranean. You walk down Curetes Street past the Roman baths to the Library of Celsus and the Grand Theatre, and also visit the site of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World; after lunch the tour stops at a carpet weaving centre where you can watch this traditional craft. Later in the week a second guided trip takes you to Pamukkale, where warm mineral springs have built up gleaming white travertine terraces beside the ruins of Hierapolis, and you can bathe in the heated waters before the drive back to the coast.
The free days can be spent on the beach and in town, or filled with locally offered activities at extra cost such as an aqua park, scuba diving, a fishing trip, a jeep or horse safari, a Turkish night or a traditional Turkish bath. On the fourth day there is the option of a picnic boat trip along the coast with swimming stops and a cooked lunch on board. Included are six nights of hotel accommodation in Kusadasi, six breakfasts and six dinners, the arrival transfer from Izmir Airport, the guided Ephesus and Pamukkale tours with entrance fees and hotel room taxes; flights, city tax and optional activities are not included. You are met at Izmir Airport or Kusadasi bus station and transferred to your hotel on the coast. After checking in and collecting your room key, the rest of the day is yours to settle in, take a first stroll along the seafront and get to know the resort. After breakfast you leave the hotel for a fully guided tour of Ephesus. On the way you see the site of the Temple of Artemis, once among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and then walk through the ancient city along Curetes Street, past the famous Roman baths, to the Library of Celsus and the Grand Theatre, learning how this great port city lived in Roman times. There is a lunch break around 13:00, followed by a visit to a carpet weaving centre where one of Turkey's oldest crafts is still practised. You then return to the hotel. There is no early start today. Enjoy the sunshine, the beach and the clear water, wander through the town and its shops, or simply relax at the hotel. If you would like to do more, many activities can be booked locally at extra cost, including an aqua park, scuba diving, a fishing tour, a jeep or horse safari, a Turkish night or a visit to a Turkish bath. Today you can stay at leisure or join the optional picnic boat trip (extra cost). If you choose the cruise, you are collected from the hotel after breakfast for a day on the water, with the boat calling at beaches and bays around Kusadasi for swimming and sunbathing and a cooked picnic lunch served on board. The boat returns at around 17:00, giving you time to freshen up before dinner, which is usually served between 19:00 and 20:00. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi.
Another day to spend exactly as you like. Lie on the beach, swim in the sea, browse the bazaar for souvenirs or take a coffee by the harbour and watch the boats come and go. After breakfast you are picked up at around 08:00 and join your guide for the drive inland to Pamukkale. Here you explore the brilliant white calcium cliffs and terraces, where you can wade and bathe in the warm spring water, and visit the ancient ruins of Hierapolis that stand above them. A lunch break is made during the day. You arrive back at the hotel at about 20:00, when dinner is served. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi.
