Highlights of the 4-Day Sinop City & Cooking Tour

This four-day stay combines the history of Sinop with the pleasures of its kitchen. The town sits on a sheltered harbour of the Black Sea, was founded by Greek colonists in the 7th century BC and gave the world Diogenes the Cynic. Instead of rushing through, you spend one full day on its monuments and a second day learning to cook Turkish food, tasting locally made fruit wine and meeting craftspeople, all with a professional English-speaking guide.

The city day covers the Archaeological Museum and the Ethnography Museum, the gardens of which hold a Seljuk tomb and the remains of a Serapeum, followed by the Historic Sinop Fortress Prison. Built in 1887 inside defences that go back to Greek times, the prison held many prominent Turkish intellectuals and has been a museum since 1999. You also see the Diogenes monument, the city walls and the Mehmet Mosque, stop for lunch at a local restaurant, admire the Byzantine Balatlar Church from AD 660 and finish at Inceburun Lighthouse, kept by the same family for five generations.

Day three is all about flavours. After a panoramic drive around town you join a practical Turkish cooking lesson and enjoy the dishes you prepare as lunch. Later, winemakers in the vineyards show you how fruit wine is produced, and a visit to a regional leather production centre lets you shop at factory rates in a relaxed setting. The package includes three nights at a hotel in Sinop, three breakfasts and one lunch, hotel room taxes, both airport transfers, air-conditioned transport and the entrance fees listed in the itinerary.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your full program, day by day — click a day to see every stop.

Day 1 Arrival - Sinop ▾

After landing at Sinop Airport you are met by our team and transferred to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is yours to settle in and get a first feel for this quiet harbour town. Overnight in Sinop.

Day 2 Sinop 🍽 Breakfast ▾

At 08:30 your guide meets you at the hotel after breakfast. The tour begins with the Archaeological and Ethnography museums, where finds gathered from around the town since 1970, a Seljuk-period tomb and the remains of a Serapis temple introduce Sinop's long past. You then walk through the Fortress Prison, opened as a jail in 1887 within ancient Greek walls and run as a museum since 1999, before visiting the statue of Diogenes, the fortress and the Mehmet Mosque. A lunch stop at a local restaurant gives you a taste of regional cooking. In the afternoon you continue to Balatlar Church, built by the Byzantines in AD 660, and end the day at Inceburun Lighthouse, still kept by one family after five generations. Return to the hotel for the night.

Day 3 Sinop 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch ▾

Your guide collects you at 08:30 for a short orientation and a panoramic drive around Sinop. Then it is time to roll up your sleeves: in a hands-on Turkish cooking lesson you prepare dishes inspired by different regions of the country and sit down to eat what you have cooked as your lunch. In the afternoon you head out to the vineyards, where local winemakers explain how fruit wine is made, with a friendly quiz on what you have learned in the evening. On the way you stop at a well-known regional leather production centre, a calm place to shop at factory prices without market haggling. Transfer back to your hotel and overnight in Sinop.

Day 4 Sinop 🍽 Breakfast ▾

After breakfast you check out and are driven to Sinop Airport for your onward or homeward flight, taking with you a few new recipes from the Black Sea coast.
