Koycegiz is a quiet lakeside town in the Mentese district of Mugla Province, on the western edge of Turkey's Mediterranean region. Its namesake lake is the reason to come: a broad body of water that began life as a sea bay before river sediments sealed it off, leaving a mild, partly sulphurous lake ringed by reed beds, small deltas and wooded hills. This three-day, two-night programme starts and ends at Dalaman Airport and gives you one fully guided day devoted to understanding how the lake works and why it matters to the people who live around it.
On the guided day your guide introduces the many sources that feed the lake, among them the Namnam and Kargicak streams, numerous springs and the Yuvarlakcay, a clear river that supports one of the largest trout farms in Turkey and plays a key role in local tourism. You will hear how these watercourses built shallow deltas where reeds thrive, and how the lake drains to the Mediterranean through the Dalyan Strait, a winding natural channel around ten kilometres long and only about one and a half metres deep. The thermal springs found along the shores, long valued for bathing and wellbeing, round off a picture of a landscape shaped as much by water as by people.

Our driver meets you at Dalaman Airport and takes you to your hotel in Koycegiz. Once your room is ready, the rest of the day is free, so you can unwind after the journey, wander through the small town centre or simply watch the light change over the water from the lakeside promenade. After breakfast your guide collects you for the Koycegiz Lake tour. The focus is the lake's remarkable water system: the Namnam and Kargicak streams, the springs that rise around its basin and the Yuvarlakcay river, whose cold flow sustains a major trout farming industry. You will learn how sediment carried by these streams created reed-covered deltas, why the shallow lake is mildly sulphurous, and how it connects to the open sea through the meandering Dalyan Strait.
