This eight-day winter package pairs two very different sides of Turkey: the imperial monuments of Istanbul and the high snowfields of Palandoken above Erzurum in the east of the country. The first two days are spent on the shores of the Bosphorus, where a guided city tour introduces the Byzantine and Ottoman layers of the old town β the Hippodrome with its obelisk brought from Egypt, the six-minareted Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace with its treasury rooms β before the afternoon ends among the stalls of the Spice Bazaar, full of herbs, Turkish delight, baklava and small souvenirs.
On day three a domestic flight carries you from Istanbul to Erzurum, and a transfer takes you up to the ski fields of Palandoken, where four nights are booked at a hotel in the ski area. From then on the mountain days carry no fixed schedule. You can ski the whole day, ride up for the views from the top, go down into Erzurum to look around the city and its local markets, or take a slow afternoon in a Turkish bath. Lift passes and ski equipment are hired locally, so you decide how many days to ski and what gear you need.
The holiday closes with a flight back to Istanbul and a free afternoon in the city before the final night. Included are three nights of hotel accommodation in Istanbul and four in Palandoken, daily breakfast and four dinners, airport transfers in Istanbul and between Erzurum airport and the ski fields, an air-conditioned vehicle, the guided Istanbul city tour with its entrance fees, a professional English-speaking guide and hotel room taxes. The first full day in the mountains is entirely yours. Spend it on the pistes from morning to late afternoon, ride up to enjoy the wide views over the Erzurum plain, or mix a few runs with a trip into the city. Overnight in Palandoken.
A second open day at Palandoken. Return to the slopes, take a rest morning, or head down to Erzurum for some shopping in the local markets and a visit to a Turkish bath. Overnight in Palandoken.
The last full day before flying back to Istanbul. Make the most of it with a final day of skiing, or keep it relaxed with mountain views and time at the hotel. Overnight in Palandoken.
After breakfast, we transfer to Erzurum Airport for the return flight to Istanbul (not included). Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure, perhaps revisiting a favorite spot in the city or relaxing after your mountain holiday. Overnight in Istanbul.
