Upon your arrival at the Istanbul airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to settle in and begin your personal discovery of this transcontinental metropolis. Overnight in Istanbul.
Today is dedicated to the historic Sultanahmet district. We begin at the Topkapi Palace, the former residence of Ottoman Sultans, to view its treasury and imperial relics. We then visit the Blue Mosque, celebrated for its intricate Iznik tile work, and the Hagia Sophia, which faces the Blue Mosque across Sultanahmet Square. Entrance fees for Topkapi Palace and, on Tuesdays, the alternative Basilica Cistern visit are paid on the spot. Our exploration continues at the Hippodrome, where we view the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, and the Column of Constantine. In the evening, enjoy a dinner cruise along the Bosphorus Strait, providing panoramic views of the city skyline by night.
We start the morning with a boat excursion along the Bosphorus, passing historic landmarks such as Dolmabahce Palace, Yildiz Palace, Ciragan Palace, Ortakoy, Beylerbeyi Palace and the Rumeli Fortress. After the cruise, we ascend Camlica Hill for a sweeping view of the city. The afternoon focuses on traditional Turkish arts, including a visit to a carpet-weaving center to learn about silk production, followed by opportunities to explore local jewelry and leather craftsmanship.
Following breakfast and check-out, a transfer takes you to the airport for the domestic flight to Cappadocia (flight not included). Our Cappadocia tour begins at the Ozkonak Underground City, a remarkable subterranean settlement. We then proceed to the Goreme Open Air Museum, famous for its 10th-century cave churches and frescoes. We visit the abandoned village of Cavusin before enjoying lunch in Avanos, where we observe traditional pottery techniques. The afternoon includes walks through the unique rock formations of Love Valley and Devrent Valley, concluding at the Three Beauties fairy chimneys.
Today we head to the Ihlara Valley for a 4km hike along the Melendiz River, visiting frescoed rock-cut churches along the way. After lunch by the river, we explore the historic Selime Cathedral and descend into the depths of Derinkuyu, the region's largest underground city. On our return, we pass the scenic Nar Crater Lake and stop at Pigeon Valley to view the traditional pigeon houses carved into the cliffs.
Following breakfast, you check out and transfer to the airport for the flight back to Istanbul (flight not included). The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the city at your own pace or revisit your favorite spots. Overnight in Istanbul.
