Highlights of the 5-Day Sivas Culture, Cooking & Turkish Bath Tour

Sivas has been a crossroads since ancient times, when the Royal Road and later the caravan routes of the Silk Road met on its plateau. Its Seljuk monuments rank among the masterpieces of medieval Anatolia, and its kitchen is hearty and generous. Over five days you experience both sides of the city at a gentle pace, with a guided sightseeing day, a culinary day and a free day centred on a traditional Turkish bath.

The sightseeing day takes in the Sivas Archaeological Museum and the Ataturk Congress and Ethnography Museum before moving on to the city's three great medreses: the blue-tiled Gok Medrese, the Cifte Minareli Medrese with its twin minarets, both from 1271, and the Sifaiye Medrese of 1218, founded as a Seljuk hospital. You also visit the Ulu Camii of 1196, the oldest mosque in Sivas, and the Ottoman Behrampasa Han of 1573, decorated with lion reliefs, and pass several cylindrical Seljuk tombs, with a lunch break at a local restaurant. On the culinary day you cook Turkish dishes with an instructor and eat them for lunch, learn about fruit wine from winemakers in the vineyards and browse a regional leather production centre.

Day four is yours, with a transfer to a hamam at a time of your choosing. Four nights at a hotel in Sivas, four breakfasts and one lunch, hotel room taxes, guided city, cooking and Turkish bath tours, a professional English-speaking guide, airport transfers, air-conditioned transport and listed entrance fees are included.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your full program, day by day — click a day to see every stop.

Day 1 Arrival - Sivas ▾

A member of our team greets you at the airport and accompanies you to your hotel in Sivas. After check-in the day is free. Overnight in Sivas.

Day 2 Sivas 🍽 Breakfast ▾

After breakfast, an 08:30 pick-up starts your full day in Sivas. The Archaeological Museum and the Ataturk Congress and Ethnography Museum set the historical scene before you head into the centre. Here three Seljuk medreses showcase the stone carving of the 13th century: the Gok Medrese with its turquoise tiles and the Cifte Minareli Medrese with its paired minarets, both dated 1271, and the Sifaiye Medrese of 1218, originally a hospital. You also see the Ulu Camii, the oldest mosque in the city, completed in 1196, the Behrampasa Han caravanserai of 1573 with lion motifs around its windows, and several round Seljuk tombs. Lunch is taken at a local restaurant. Overnight in Sivas.

Day 3 Sivas 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch ▾

Your guide collects you at 08:30 for an orientation tour of Sivas before the cooking lesson begins. Step by step you prepare recipes from several Turkish regions and then sit down to enjoy them as lunch. The afternoon takes you to the vineyards, where local winemakers explain the craft of fruit wine, followed by an evening test of your new knowledge. You also visit one of the region's leather production centres for pressure-free shopping at factory prices. Overnight in Sivas.

Day 4 Sivas 🍽 Breakfast ▾

Today you are free to relax, shop or explore Sivas on your own. Whenever you wish, we pick you up and take you to a traditional hamam for a Turkish bath, a ritual of steam, scrubbing and foam that has been part of Anatolian life for centuries, and then return you to your hotel. Overnight in Sivas.

Day 5 Departure - Departure 🍽 Breakfast ▾

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Sivas Nuri Demirag Airport for your onward flight.
