Where the Ottoman Story Began

Bilecik, between Bursa and Eskişehir, sits in the valley where the Ottoman state was born at the turn of the 14th century. This tour is based for four nights at a hotel in Bilecik and combines a guided city day, a cooking class, a hamam visit and a countryside outing, with transfers from and to Bursa Yenişehir Airport.

The city tour concentrates on the early Ottoman heritage: the tomb of Sheikh Edebali, the scholar whose guidance and family ties shaped the young dynasty, and the Orhan Gazi Mosque beside it, perched on a cliff with its minaret set apart on a rock. The Bilecik Museum adds archaeology and ethnography, the Abdülhamid-era Clock Tower overlooks the town, and Pelitözü Pond offers a green break among the pines.

Food and relaxation follow: a hands-on class preparing Bilecik güveci, a clay-pot stew, with a dessert to finish, then a morning in a traditional hamam and an afternoon at the Kınık Waterfall. Nearby Söğüt, with the tomb of Ertuğrul Gazi, can be added on request for travellers following the trail of the early Ottomans.

Bilecik is also known for its silk and mother-of-pearl craft traditions and for the restored Ottoman houses of its old quarter, which are pleasant to explore on foot during your free time, along with the town's tea gardens overlooking the valley.

Breakfasts, one lunch, guiding, entrance fees and transfers are included; other meals are paid locally. The tour is available as a private or a small-group departure.

Day 2 Bilecik – City Tour & Pelitözü - Bilecik – Cooking Class 🍽 Breakfast ▾

Begin at the Bilecik Museum, housed in a former courthouse and opened in 2006, with archaeological and ethnographic collections displayed in chronological order. Continue to the tomb of Sheikh Edebali, spiritual mentor of the first Ottoman rulers, built in Orhan Gazi's time on a cliff with panoramic views, and the nearby Orhan Gazi Mosque from the early 14th century, whose minaret stands on a rock about 30 m from the prayer hall. See the four-faced Clock Tower erected under Sultan Abdülhamid II on a hill above the centre, then relax at Pelitözü Pond, a pine-fringed reservoir 7 km from town with tea gardens, pancake houses, bicycle and pedal-boat rental. Return to your hotel. Overnight in Bilecik.

Day 3 Bilecik – Cooking Class - Bilecik – Hamam & Kınık Waterfall 🍽 Breakfast · Lunch ▾

Day 4 Bilecik – Hamam & Kınık Waterfall - Bilecik – Departure 🍽 Breakfast ▾

Start the day at a centuries-old hamam: wrap up in a peştemal and wooden clogs, warm up under the domed hot room, then enjoy a scrub and foam massage followed by tea in the resting room. Afterwards drive about 25 km to the Kınık Waterfall, which springs from the village of the same name, for a walk in the countryside. Return to your hotel. Overnight in Bilecik.
