On landing at Izmir Airport you are met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Kusadasi, a pleasant drive down the coast. Once you have checked in and picked up your key, the rest of the day is free. You might take a gentle walk along the seafront, have dinner in one of the harbour restaurants at your own expense or simply recover from the journey. The guided part of the holiday starts the following morning, so there is no need to rush this evening.
The guide meets you at the hotel and you drive up to Gazibegendi, a vantage point above the town. According to local tradition Ataturk was so taken with the view on a visit here that the mayor gave the place its present name. Next you head to Pigeon Island, the town's emblem, to see its Byzantine castle, built long ago to keep pirates away, and enjoy the views back over the harbour. The Caravanserai, an Ottoman stronghold that now hosts Turkish night entertainment, follows. Continuing on foot in the centre, you visit a carpet-weaving workshop, and your guide suggests reliable shops for jewellery, leather goods, bags, souvenirs and Turkish sweets. You are then driven back to your hotel.
After breakfast you are collected for a professional Turkish cooking lesson at a local restaurant. Working alongside a local cook is a rewarding way to learn about village traditions and the Aegean way of life, and the session gives you a taste of a typical Turkish village atmosphere. When the dishes are ready you sit down to eat them as your lunch. The afternoon is set aside for free time and shopping in the centre of Kusadasi before the drive back to your hotel.
Today you are picked up from the hotel and taken to a hamam, the traditional Turkish bath that has been part of daily life throughout the country for centuries. The timing is arranged around your preference and the bath's available hours. Afterwards you are dropped in the town centre for free time and shopping, and the remainder of the day is yours to spend at leisure before you return to the hotel.
After a final breakfast you have free time until the departure transfer. Pack at your own pace, take one more look at the bay or pick up last souvenirs in the shops near your hotel. Your driver then collects you and brings you back to Izmir Airport for your flight home, closing five relaxed days in Kusadasi.
