Over five days this tour shows several sides of Tunceli, a mountainous province in eastern Turkey: its layered history, its home cooking, its bathing tradition and the protected wilderness of the Munzur Valley. You are collected at Elazig Airport and driven to Tunceli, where the same hotel hosts you for four nights. Three guided days follow, each starting with a pick-up after breakfast, before a final free morning and the return transfer to Elazig Airport for your flight.
The first guided day covers the south of the province. You start at the Ergen Church in Hozat, an Armenian building some 1,200 years old, then reach Pertek, where two 16th-century mosques, Sungur Bey and Celebi Ali, were moved piece by piece to escape the rising Lake Keban. Pertek Castle, an 11th-century Mengujekid stronghold, has stood on an island about five kilometres offshore since the Keban Dam flooded the valley in 1974. Further on are Goktepe Mound, the Urartian Mazgirt Castle with its old windmills and views, the fragmentary walls of Bagin Castle, believed to be pre-Christian, the Bagin Thermal Springs and Fairy Water Valley with its woodland walking country.
Next, a chef at a local restaurant guides you through the flavours of Tunceli as you cook Babuko, the signature local dish, and a dessert for lunch, followed by free time and shopping in town. On the fourth day you visit a centuries-old hamam with tiled walls and natural light, where the heat under the dome reaches around 50 degrees before a scrub, soap massage and tea in the rest room, and then drive into Munzur Valley National Park, a carefully protected home to many animal species and endemic plants. Four hotel nights, four buffet breakfasts and one local lunch, an English-speaking guide, air-conditioned transport, airport transfers and the listed entrance fees are included.

A driver meets you at Elazig Airport and brings you by road to your hotel in Tunceli. Once you have checked in, the remaining hours are unplanned so you can rest or explore Tunceli on your own. The guided programme starts tomorrow morning after breakfast. Overnight in Tunceli.
After breakfast your guide picks you up for the southern circuit. Visit the Ergen Church in Hozat, an Armenian church of about 1,200 years, then continue to Pertek for the 16th-century Sungur Bey and Celebi Ali mosques, relocated to safety from Lake Keban, and the 11th-century Pertek Castle on its island in the reservoir. In Mazgirt, stop at Goktepe Mound and the Urartian Mazgirt Castle crowned by old windmills. The day continues to the surviving walls of Bagin Castle, the Bagin Thermal Springs and the wooded Fairy Water Valley before you return to the hotel. Overnight in Tunceli.
After breakfast head to a local restaurant for a professional cooking lesson. Alongside the chef you taste different Tunceli flavours and prepare lunch, featuring Babuko, the best-known local dish, and a dessert, learning techniques you can repeat at home. Enjoy the meal you have made, then spend free time shopping in the city centre before returning to your hotel. Overnight in Tunceli.
Following breakfast, visit a traditional Turkish bath that has served the town for hundreds of years. Change into a waistcloth and wooden clogs and relax under the central dome, where the temperature rises to about 50 degrees, before an attendant gives you a scrub and soap massage. Afterwards, rest with a glass of tea. Then drive to Munzur Valley National Park, a protected habitat for many animals and endemic, traditionally healing plants. Return to the hotel. Overnight in Tunceli.
After a last breakfast and some free time in Tunceli, you are driven to Elazig Airport in line with your flight time, completing five days of history, food, relaxation and nature in eastern Turkey.
